So after being here for 11 days, i have finally meeting up with all the Rotary Students. Today was the first meeting to get our spending money which is Rs. 2000, which I have not figured out will or will not be enough for your average teenage spending... Pune, is one of the more expensive places in India...
Relative Prices are as Following:
Gas: Rs. 50.69 per L
Coke in a Glass Bottle: Rs. 15
One L of Aquafina in the school canteen: Rs. 15
To Use the computer for an hour at school: Rs.30(and Rs. 2 for printing of every sheet)
Rickshaw ride to school for my house: Rs. 40
Rickshaw ride to FC (nearest good road from school, to shop/ eat): Rs. 14 (but they always overcharge you)
Chocolate Bar: Rs. 10
Parking your car: Rs. 5/10 and then Rs. 30 at the theater
Dinner: Anywhere between Rs. 45- Rs. 400
Normally when going out to a restaurant it is a little over 1000 for the whole family.
Cute Shoes: Rs. 1500
Levi's Jeans: Around Rs. 2000
Cute Bag: between Rs. 200- Rs. 2000
Mens Shirt: Rs. 250 (for like a Nice label, like John Players)
if you want the number in American Dollars you take the Rs. ___ and divide by 40.54 (which is today's exchange rate)
Some things i have scene have been very very inexpensive, like men's shirts, but other things like a cute skirt i saw have been over 50 American. Sometimes, it is hard not to compare the US prices, like a really awesome (Fake) Indian necklace costing Rs. 280 (around 8 American) would go for over Rs. 2000 back in the US even with fake gems and just colored glass.
In other news, i have some pictures posted on facebook, if you do not have one or do not know what that is, i am working on posting some on my blog, as soon as i figure it out, and with the help of my computer savvy brother or exchange friend.
Something Pune is a bit famous for is Call Centers, when even driving down the roads, you know when there is a call center around (generally they are not clearly marked, but everyone knows what they are) because you will see a white car with a T, meaning they belong to the call centers. The people in call centers are generally very very young and right out of school, or still in school. Call Centers that i know are located in Pune are IBM, Travelocity, and Dell. I have been informed that Americans get a bad rep. with the people who work in the call centers because of there attitudes towards the people in India. So this is what i have been told if you are calling a call center in India, Do not, let me repeat my self, DO NOT slam down the phone when they tell you they are located in India, and when you finally get it out of them, they generally are told not to tell Americans because they get really angry, just tell them nicely how nice it is, and maybe ask about there education because normally they are highly educated, and are in the process of finding a better job.
In other news in Pune, my host sister is leaving for the US, tomorrow, which is sad because she has showed me a lot of the city, and now i may resort to riding Rickshaws and not motor bikes places, which is sometimes a challenge.
Well for now i am going to a place in the city called Mocha (which i don't think actually serves coffee) but it has very very nice chocolate dishes which i only wish i could eat because of the strange milk content that is not pleasing to me.
And maybe once again i will get stuck in the middle of a parade and get my skin died pink in celebration of nothing (which yes, did happen to me yesterday), and sadly my skin is still a pink shade.
And by the way Happy Friendship Day!!!
